ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is Frédéric Bernot.

Following 13 years of highly rewarding professional experience in the Seychelles where I held management positions in the fields of Quality, Logistics and Commerce, I chose to devote myself to teaching English as a foreign language. Reciprocally, being French, I also decided to teach French as a foreign language.

To achieve these goals, I prepared for and successfully obtained two Cambridge Assessment English qualifications in 2020:

C2 Proficiency, their highest level qualification;

CELTA, the most widely recognised teaching qualification in the world. It’s a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course. That’s the most sought-after qualification when language schools and public schools are recruiting for an English-teaching position worldwide.

As French is my mother tongue, I also apply my linguistic and teaching skills to help non-French speakers to seamlessly and confidently speak French and learn about French culture. English speakers appreciate how easily I can switch to English if need be. My basic knowledge of Spanish and Italian and my rudimentary Japanese can also prove useful.

Driven by my passion for languages and a genuine desire to help others, I can easily cross cultural barriers to offer my services to anyone looking to take English as a foreign language or French as a foreign language courses, and more generally to anyone who might need my language skills (click on this link).

FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES

Are you struggling to speak French? Are you looking for someone to lean on to get better?

You’ve come to the right place!

Whatever your mother tongue, I’ll be happy to help you achieve your goals in French!

My training courses are aimed at individuals as well as professionals, associations and other organisations :

My commitments : French courses based on a modern and customised approach and powered by quality coaching.

My training courses are based on 3 pillars:

1- A modern approach
You take charge of your training. This is not a traditional academic approach based mainly on the acquisition of basic grammar, conjugation and vocabulary rules. Even if these purely ‘academic’ aspects remain essential, other pedagogical angles are used during your learning:
– a ‘practical’ angle which enables you to prioritise your problems and respond to them in a concrete and targeted way (for example: writing a professional email, preparing and giving a professional presentation, writing a covering letter, preparing for a job interview, negotiating, preparing for a trip, etc.);
– a ‘French for fun’ approach, where the aim is to combine the useful with the pleasurable, using fun educational tools, role-playing or activities based on your hobbies and interests to maximise your commitment and optimise your learning;
– a ‘conversation’ angle to help you feel more at ease when speaking French, by working on improving your listening comprehension as well as your oral expression (pronunciation, intonation, fluency, etc.).

2- A customised approach
The necessary time will be devoted to gathering your needs in order to analyse your goals and determine the challenges of your training.
I will assess your level and identify the key areas on which you should focus your efforts.
I will collect your preferences in order to adapt the course material to your tastes and/or needs.
I will propose a tailored training solution that takes all these factors into account.

3- Quality coaching
I will act as a facilitator in achieving your language goals.
I will put you at ease and create a reassuring climate that will help you develop your skills and gain confidence.
I will challenge you in a way that will optimise your involvement and maximise your progress.
I will motivate you, and keep you motivated throughout the duration of the course.
At the end of your training, you will know where to focus your efforts next, and you will have a lot of ideas on how to become more independent and ultimately take ownership of your learning.

Testimonials

« I started lessons with Frédéric a year ago when I moved to France to take up a teaching position. I am originally from Birmingham, England and had no knowledge of the French language so was starting from scratch. Frédéric has been an excellent French teacher. He was really patient with me and took his time to explain grammar points, even if it meant repeating them several times. He also gave me time to auto correct and promoted the fact that I identify my own errors which has really helped me. Also at the start I could hardly string a sentence together in French but luckily his level of English is excellent so he was able to explain everything clearly. Thanks to Frédéric I have made so much progress, I would definitely recommend him. »
Claire Bonelli – originally from Birmingham, England.

« Frederic is really a very helpful, organized, and communicative person. He and I have spoken together intermittently for over a year now, at times regularly throughout the confinements that have taken place. Frederic helped me to improve my French and to focus on certain aspects of my learning, based on our conversations. He was always clear, personable, and helpful, often sending me simple notes and/or recommendations of where I could improve and using which resources. I highly recommend him as a language instructor. »
Daniel – Toronto, Canada.

« Si quieres aprender francés o mejorar tu inglés y eres hispanohablante, Frédéric es el profesor adecuado para ti, ya que con él podrás comunicarte en español y resolver mejor tus dudas. »
Rosalía Ceprián – Profesora de francés en Madrid, España.

« I have been living and working in France for years, but in an English speaking international environment. I started taking language training courses and studying with Frederic in parallel in spring 2020, my level was around A2. By the end of the year I passed TCF (B1), DCL (B2) formal tests and had prepared for a naturalization interview. Frederic’s guidance was essential in reaching all those milestones. Not only he has strong academic credentials and formal knowledge, but also a genuine desire to help his students make progress and enjoy learning the language and use it in various real life contexts. One of the biggest hurdles for adult learners is maintaining motivation for longer periods of time to make significant progress. Professors like Frederic are rare, he successfully adresses exactly that problem. He sets a positive and confident tone for his students and adjusts course content to individual needs making your progress inevitable. I highly recommend Frederic as a teacher of French. »
Anna Marchon – Independent fundraising advisor, Paris, France (originally from Russia and the USA).

My language skills can be used in a variety of contexts other than education: public relations, tourism, assistance, translation, interpreting…

To give you an example, being an English-French interpreter was one of my first professional experiences. I was the interface between French-speaking trainers and English-speaking trainees.
